Apple has released its third annual App Store Transparency Report, revealing key data for 2024. The report is part of the company's commitments following its 2021 class action settlement and provides statistics on app approvals, rejections, removals, fraud management, and other aspects of the store.
By the end of 2024, there were 1,961,596 apps available in the App Store, 100,000 more than the year before. The platform recorded 839 million downloads and 813 million visitors per week, confirming growing demand. In total, Apple processed 7.77 million applications, rejecting 1.93 million. Reasons for rejection included performance issues, legal issues, design issues, business model disputes, and security threats. After fixing them, developers resubmitted 295,109 apps, which were approved.
In 2024, the company removed 82,509 apps, mostly from the Utilities and Games categories. The main reasons were: design violations (42,252), fraud (38,315), copyright infringement (425), spam (294), and others. Apple also complied with government requests, removing 1,307 apps in China, 171 in Russia, and 79 in South Korea. Developers filed 26,224 appeals, and after review, Apple restored 78 apps in China and 71 in the United States.
Combating fraud remains a priority: Apple has blocked more than $2 billion in transactions and closed 128.9 million user accounts and 146,747 developer accounts for violations.
The App Store Transparency Report provides data on how the store operates in all 175 countries and regions where it is available.
