South Korean company Samsung Electronics announced the start of mass production of next-generation memory chips for artificial intelligence systems. These are high-bandwidth HBM4 chips, a key component for scaling large-scale data centers.

Samsung announced that it had begun manufacturing these products and had begun shipping commercial units to customers. The company called this an industry first, securing its leading position in the HBM4 market. Nvidia, the American corporation, is expected to be one of the main customers for the new memory.

With the growing number of data centers focused on artificial intelligence, demand for modern memory chips has increased significantly. According to Samsung, the new chip exceeds industry standards in data processing speed by more than 40 percent compared to previous models.

Samsung Electronics shares rose more than six percent on the South Korean stock exchange this afternoon. The South Korean government previously announced its intention to become one of the world's top three leaders in artificial intelligence, alongside the United States and China.
