Google handles 88% of the world's search traffic

Google remains the undisputed leader among search engines, controlling almost 88% of all search traffic. According to OneLittleWeb , there were 1.863 trillion search visits between April 2024 and March 2025, of which 1.6315 trillion were from Google. Microsoft Bing came in second with 60.1 billion queries, showing a growth of 27.77%, while Google, on the contrary, lost 1.41%. Other notable players include Brave, which showed a record growth of 64.2%, and Yandex, which took the third place.

While traditional search engines are holding their ground, chatbots, despite the hype around them, are far behind. Their total traffic was only 55.2 billion visits — 34 times less than Google. The leader among AI assistants was ChatGPT with 47.7 billion requests, but even it could not come close to Bing’s figures, let alone Google.

However, as Apple's senior vice president of services Eddy Cue reported, the company's search traffic in the Safari browser has decreased for the first time in 22 years. Eddy Cue linked this to the growing popularity of AI tools. Apple is considering integrating artificial intelligence into Safari, which could further reduce users' dependence on Google. Services such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot offer alternative ways to find information, bypassing traditional search engines.

For Apple, this trend poses a serious threat because Google pays it about $20 billion annually to be the default search engine in Safari, and the loss of that revenue is a major concern for the company. But the problem is broader: the spread of AI is reducing traffic to sites that have traditionally relied on search engines, jeopardizing the business models of many companies.
