TikTok is testing its Instagram counterpart

TikTok is launching a new app called Notes, which is a direct competitor to Instagram*. During the trial period, the app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store in Canada and Australia.

The company has confirmed that the app is in its initial launch phase and serves as a dedicated photo and text messaging platform.

The TikTok team says, “We hope the TikTok community will use Notes to continue sharing their moments through photo posts. Whether you're documenting adventures, expressing creativity, or simply sharing snapshots of your day, TikTok Notes is designed for those who would like to share photo content and get noticed."

The company did not disclose information about the app's functionality, but did mention that users can log in using their current account.

Posts in TikTok Notes will appear in a two-column grid on the home page. User reports also indicate that it is possible to post multiple photos in a carousel.

While TikTok already supports image and text posts, the company is looking to create a separate space for this type of content to offer an alternative to the Instagram* and Threads* apps.
