Samsung Releases 13-Inch Color E-Paper Biopolymer Display
Samsung Electronics unveiled the 13-inch Color E-Paper display, the world's first device of its kind with a phytoplankton-based biopolymer housing. This ultra-thin, energy-efficient device is designed to replace paper posters and price tags in retail environments.
As Hyunjae Kim, Executive Vice President of Samsung's Display Business, noted, the product demonstrates the company's commitment not only to display technology but also to materials excellence. The device's body is made of 45% recycled plastic and 10% phytoplankton-based biopolymer, which, according to UL certification, reduces carbon emissions during production by more than 40%. All packaging is made of paper.
This 13-inch, A4-sized display with a 1600 x 1200 pixel resolution is designed for use on shelves, counters, and doors. It features a built-in battery, a USB Type-C port, and weighs 0.9 kg, making it easy to install and move. An advanced color rendering algorithm creates a paper-like effect with smooth transitions and sharp edges. The display consumes power only when refreshing content, maintaining a static image with zero power consumption, reducing operating costs.
Content management is carried out through the Samsung E-Paper mobile app for iOS and Android or through the Samsung VXT cloud platform, which allows you to remotely configure devices, create content and control its display.
The new product will be unveiled at ISE 2026 in Barcelona, where the 20-inch model will also be unveiled for the first time. Together with the existing 32-inch model, they will form an expanded line of solutions for corporate clients.
