OpenAI Acquires Startup Statsig for $1.1 Billion
OpenAI has announced it will buy product testing startup Statsig for $1.1 billion. The startup's founder will take over as its chief technology officer for applications, and the deal will be one of the largest acquisitions in the history of the ChatGPT creator.

OpenAI announced Tuesday an agreement to acquire product testing startup Statsig in a stock-for-stock deal valued at $1.1 billion. It’s one of the largest acquisitions in OpenAI’s history.
Statsig founder and CEO Vijay Raji will be joining OpenAI as CTO of applications. He will report to General Manager of Applications Fiji Simo, who joined the company a few weeks ago. Raji will lead product development for ChatGPT, the Codex coding tool, and future OpenAI applications. The Statsig platform will accelerate development in this area, the company said.
In parallel, OpenAI has made other personnel changes. Chief Product Officer Kevin Weil will lead a new division, OpenAI for Science, which aims to build an AI-powered platform to accelerate scientific discovery. He will collaborate with OpenAI researcher Sebastian Bübeck.
Current CTO Srinivas Narayanan is moving to the role of CTO for B2B applications, where he will work directly with COO Brad Lightcup, who oversees enterprise customer engagement.
The acquisition of Statsig is pending regulatory approval. Once completed, all of the startup's employees will join OpenAI, but Statsig will continue to operate independently and serve its clients from its Seattle office.
