Meta* announced a new generation of artificial intelligence chips
Meta* introduced MTIA, accelerator chips for artificial intelligence. They will be produced by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing using 5nm technology.

Meta* has released details about the production of a new accelerator chip for artificial intelligence. Its architecture focuses on providing the right balance of compute, bandwidth, and memory to serve ranking and recommendation models.
The new Meta* Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA) chip is part of the company's larger effort to create custom silicon chips. In addition, Meta* has invested heavily in developing the software needed to make the most of its infrastructure.
MTIA will be manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing using 5nm technology. Meta* said it has 3 times the performance of its first-generation processor.
The chip has been deployed in a data center and is used to serve artificial intelligence applications. In addition, Meta* notes that several programs are underway to expand the scope of MTIA, including support for generative AI workloads.
