Wolves from Game of Thrones in Real Life

Colossal Biosciences, a biotechnology company, has announced the birth of three genetically engineered wolf pups—Romulus, Remus, and Khaleesi—claiming them to be the first dire wolves to exist in over 10,000 years.

Wolves from Game of Thrones in Real Life

Remember the dire wolves from Game of Thrones? Now they will appear in real life! Scientists have bred puppies of the dire wolf, which became extinct 12 thousand years ago, for the first time. So far, they look like adorable cuties... But it's scary to imagine what they will grow up to be!

- 91% of the genome was restored from DNA found in the tooth and skull of an ancient beast up to 72 thousand years old;
- The modified genome was introduced into the eggs of a gray wolf - genetically, it is almost a copy of the extinct species;
- The embryos were carried by surrogate she-wolves, but out of 45, only two survived;
- The Colossal company plans to resurrect mammoths, dodos, and the Tasmanian tiger;
- Dire wolves were more massive than modern ones and hunted in packs - it was their images that formed the basis for the pets of House Stark in the series.
