OpenAI is developing a social network with biometric verification
According to sources , OpenAI is working on a social network that might require biometric data, such as a face or iris scan, to verify identity for registration.
The project's goal is to create a "human-only" platform that could solve the bot problem, which is particularly acute on platforms like X (formerly Twitter, blocked in Russia).
The idea is to use technologies like Apple's Face ID or iris scanning with the Worldcoin Orb device to create a verifiable "proof of identity." This measure is intended to stop the activity of automated accounts, which are often used to spread spam, manipulation, or malicious content.
The project is being developed by a small team, and no public launch date has been set. The final concept may change significantly. Details of integration with existing OpenAI products, such as ChatGPT and Sora, are still unclear, but according to some reports, users will be able to create content, including images and videos, using AI directly within the social network.
If launched, OpenAI will face significant competition in the social media market. Despite the company's successful track record of creating viral consumer apps, building a sustainable social platform is a more complex task. Furthermore, the proposed biometric approach raises concerns about user privacy, as the leakage of immutable biological data, such as iris fingerprints, could have serious consequences.
