Apple's recycling robots can handle 23 iPhone models

In a new video released by Apple in honor of Earth Day on April 22, the company says its Daisy robot and other automated systems are capable of extracting materials for recycling from 23 iPhone models.

The company also said on its website that it will recycle iPhones for free. The message says, “This Earth Day, let’s put your used device to good use.” It is also noted that the user can exchange it and receive a discount on a future purchase at the Apple Store.

Apple promises to recycle a variety of devices, cables, accessories and other electronics for free, whether they are intended for recycling or reuse.

The company also shared news of further progress towards its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2030. Now, clean energy consumption in Apple's supply chain and global operations has tripled compared to 2020.

To offset the electricity Apple fans use to charge their devices, the company announced new solar energy projects in Michigan and Spain. They are expected to produce 237 megawatts of clean energy by the end of 2024.

Despite all the achievements, Apple still has a long way to go to reach its ambitious 2030 goal.
