Apple Has a Foldable iPad Pro Prototype With Under-Display Face ID
There have been rumors in the past that Apple is working on a foldable iPad Pro. Today, it was reported that one of Apple's prototypes has Face ID technology built under the display.

According to Weibo insider Digital Chat Station , Apple has a prototype of an 18.8-inch foldable tablet with Face ID components built under the display. The source did not provide any additional information.
There have been plenty of rumors online that Apple is working on a foldable iPad or MacBook. It was previously unknown whether it would be an iPad or a Mac, but ultimately it will depend on which operating system Apple decides to use.
As for the under-display Face ID system, it has been rumored for years for future iPhones, but Apple has yet to make it a reality. Today marks the first time that rumors have surfaced that it will appear on a foldable Apple device.
According to analyst firm Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), Apple plans to release an 18.8-inch iPad Pro with an OLED display in 2027. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that LG will start mass production of MacBook displays with a 20.2- or 18.8-inch foldable screen as early as the last quarter of 2025.
In December, The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple was working on a large foldable device that would function like a laptop and would be approximately 19 inches in size when unfolded.
Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman also wrote about the development of a foldable iPad, and he believes that the tablet will be released in 2028. According to Gurman, Apple does not want the device to have a curve, and instead it will look like a single piece of glass.
Apple is also working on a foldable, clamshell-style iPhone due out next year that will replace Face ID with a Touch ID scanner built into the power button, like the new iPad Air and iPad mini.
