Apple: Folding smartphone is a challenge of the times

Apple, known for its thoughtful approach to developing new products, may miss an opportunity in the foldable device market. The company is the only major smartphone maker that has yet to launch a foldable phone, raising concerns that it could miss out on a growing trend that promises to generate significant revenue in the coming years.
According to IDC, 10.2 million foldable smartphones were sold worldwide in 2022, up 350% from 2021. In 2023 they reached 18.5 million. This market is expected to continue to grow in the coming years and sales could reach 100 million units by 2025.
Apple's participation in this segment could strengthen the future of foldable devices and promote their development. According to Neil Moyston, research director at Strategy Analytics, Apple has the opportunity to "make or break the future of the foldable device industry."
However, experts also point out the risk of releasing a foldable smartphone that is not ready for the market, which could harm the iPhone franchise. Currently, foldable phone screens still have noticeable creases, and Apple may be reluctant to release a product that doesn't meet its high quality standards.
While experts have speculated that Apple's first foldable device could be a foldable iPad rather than an iPhone, the company's delay may be due to issues with visible creases on the screens of foldable devices.
Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi and other manufacturers already offer foldable phones, and they are constantly improving their technology. Apple risks being left behind if it doesn't release a foldable device soon.
Will Apple be able to catch up with its competitors or will it remain on the sidelines of the new trend? Time will show.
