UAE to be world's first to trust AI to draft laws
The government of the United Arab Emirates has announced its intention to use artificial intelligence (AI) to draft new laws and amend existing legislation.

The government of the United Arab Emirates has launched a new initiative that uses AI in the process of drafting and amending legislation. The program aims to increase the speed and accuracy of legal regulation, as well as reduce the workload of legal professionals.
According to the project, AI will analyze huge volumes of legal documentation, court cases, and statistical data to automatically recommend amendments to existing laws and develop new regulations. This measure is expected to speed up decision-making by 70%. Previously, such a practice was used on a limited basis, but this is the first time AI is proposed to be used so widely. The new system should systematically analyze the impact of existing regulations on society and the economy, providing the government with regular recommendations on how to improve legislation.
According to experts, the technology could lead to a significant reduction in budget expenditure on legal consulting and legislative advice, traditionally performed by expensive law firms and legal experts.
The project has raised concerns among some experts about the reliability of AI findings and the risk of accidental breaches of fairness and impartiality. However, the UAE government has stressed its commitment to quality control and human involvement in the final decisions.
To implement the project, the authorities have created a special unit within the Cabinet Office — the Regulatory Intelligence Authority — which will oversee the development and implementation of the system. Dubai Ruler and UAE Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum expressed confidence that the innovation will usher in a new era in the creation of laws, ensuring the precision and speed required by modern society.
