An enthusiast known as wojciech-graj has created a unique port of the Doom game - cyDoomGeneric. It allows you to play directly in Microsoft Paint on Windows XP.

To run the cyDoomGeneric port, you need the Python matplotlib package and the game's WAD file. A file from the shareware version of the game will do. The project contains launch instructions:

  1. The pyautogui, pywinctl, scikit-image packages must be installed with the Windows XP version of mspaint.
  2. If mspaint is not installed with wine, you will have to edit the PAINT_COMMAND variable in demomspaint.py to contain the command to run paint.
  3. If you want to release the mouse in the middle of the frame you are drawing, you should drag it to the upper left corner of the screen. After this you can exit the python script. Once the frame is drawn, the user can submit input by filling in the appropriate "key" drawn below the frame.

Other enthusiasts have run Doom on a variety of non-game items, from a smart toothbrush to a lawn mower .
