Tesla recalls 3,878 Cybertransporters due to faulty accelerator pedal

Tesla has initiated a recall of all 2024 MY Cybertruck models sold due to a defect that causes the accelerator pedal to stick. According to NHTSA, the problem can cause the pedal shoe to become dislodged and then become stuck when pressed with too much force.

This malfunction occurred due to a change in the assembly process when lubricant (soap) was added to the accelerator pedal, resulting in reduced pad retention. Although the truck's brakes continue to function even if the accelerator pedal gets stuck, this is not a solution to the problem.

The recall includes 3,878 Cybertrucks sold between November 13, 2023 and April 4, 2024.

According to a timeline provided in NHTSA documents, Tesla first learned of the accelerator pedal problem on March 31 and then received a second report on April 3. The company conducted an internal assessment of the problem and decided to issue a voluntary recall on April 12.

Tesla is informing its stores and service centers of the problem and promising to replace or repair pedals on recalled Cybertrucks free of charge. All new vehicles will be equipped with an updated accelerator pedal component and a new part number.

This is the second Tesla recall related to the Cybertruck. In February, the company recalled 2 million vehicles in the United States because the font size on the warning light panels was too small to meet safety standards. However, this issue was resolved with a software update.
