Microsoft Releases New AI Tool Azure MCP Server
Microsoft has released a public preview of Azure MCP Server, giving AI agents access to Azure capabilities. AI agents can now use cloud resources for key tasks: storing files, querying databases, analyzing logs, and running CLI commands.

Microsoft has introduced the public beta version of Azure MCP Server, a revolutionary solution that allows AI agents to work directly with the Azure cloud infrastructure. Now artificial intelligence can independently manage databases, analyze logs, work with file storage, and perform operations via the command line, using the full power of the cloud platform.
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open protocol that enables interaction between AI agents and external systems. It enables seamless integration of AI with data, tools, and services on a plug-once, use-anywhere basis.
With Azure MCP Server, AI agents gain access to powerful Azure services:
- Azure Cosmos DB - queries, container management, SQL execution.
- Azure Storage - working with BLOBs, tables, metadata.
- Azure Monitor - log analysis via KQL, monitoring setup.
- Azure CLI and Azure Developer CLI (azd) - direct command execution, application deployment.
- Azure MCP Server is compatible with any MCP-enabled agent, including GitHub Copilot Agent Mode.
Azure lowers the entry threshold for working with the platform, accelerates DevOps processes with AI assistants, and allows delegating routine AI management operations. To connect an agent to Azure MCP Server, simply configure it to launch the server via the MCP SDK or frameworks. Integration with other Microsoft services is expected in the future.
