Chinese competitor ChatGPT collects more than 200 million requests monthly

Robin Li, CEO of Baidu, noted that the Ernie Bot chatbot is actively used, processing more than 200 million requests per month. The number of users has doubled since the last update in December. And Ernie Bot itself was introduced to the public 8 months ago as a competitor to ChatGPT from OpenAI.

The number of enterprise users of the Ernie Bot chatbot has reached the threshold of 85,000. In February, it was announced that Baidu had begun to profit from using AI to optimize its advertising services and help other companies create their own models.

Recent data indicates that AI competitors are catching up with Ernie Bot. Last month, traffic to Ernie Bot's app and website totaled 14.9 million visits, while Moonshot AI's Alibaba-backed Kimi recorded 12.6 million views in the same period. The information also shows that each user makes multiple requests.

Globally, Chinese AI chatbots are still significantly inferior to their Western counterparts. OpenAI's ChatGPT continues to be the most popular in the world, with total traffic reaching 1.86 billion views per month.

It is worth noting that in China, companies must obtain permission before introducing generative services based on artificial intelligence. The country has accelerated this process in recent months after AI was identified as a key technology in which China will have to compete with the US.
