Apple is ready to pay $1 billion a year for Gemini AI for Siri.
Apple plans to strike a deal with Google worth about $1 billion to use its Gemini artificial intelligence model to dramatically upgrade its Siri voice assistant, according to people familiar with the matter.
Apple is in talks with Google about a major artificial intelligence agreement. According to informed sources, Apple plans to pay approximately $1 billion annually for access to Google's powerful language model, which contains 1.2 trillion parameters.
Following a lengthy evaluation period, the parties are reportedly close to finalizing the contract. The primary goal of the collaboration is to modernize the Siri voice assistant, whose core technology is in need of an update. Using Google's model, which is more sophisticated than Apple's own developments, will lay the foundation for a number of new features planned for implementation.
Apple previously considered using products from other companies, such as OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude, but ultimately chose Google's offering. This partnership is expected to be temporary, until Apple's own AI models reach the required level of maturity.
According to Bloomberg, the presentation of the updated Siri is tentatively scheduled for spring next year.
