Amazon will spend $8.88 billion to expand cloud infrastructure in Singapore

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced a major plan to expand its cloud infrastructure in Singapore.

About investments in cloud infrastructure in Singapore

Over the next four years, the company intends to invest an impressive amount of $8.88 billion in the project in Singapore. These funds will complement the $11.5 billion invested by AWS in the development of cloud services in the Asia-Pacific region until 2023. Thus, by 2028, the total volume of planned investments will exceed $23 billion.

In addition to the financial investment, AWS announced partnerships with the Singapore government, government organizations and local businesses. The goal of this collaboration is to accelerate the implementation of generative artificial intelligence in various areas of life in the city-state.

The announcement, made at the AWS ASEAN Summit in Singapore, was the latest step in Amazon's ambitious plan to develop cloud infrastructure in Southeast Asia. The company previously announced investments of $5 billion in Thailand and $6 billion in Malaysia.

Investments from other technology companies

Leading technology companies are actively competing for a share of the promising Southeast Asian market. Amazon's decision to increase investment in Singapore comes after Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced plans to invest $2.2 billion in cloud services in Malaysia and $1.7 billion in Indonesia.

Nvidia already has operations in Malaysia, Vietnam and Singapore, and Apple CEO Tim Cook visited Singapore, Vietnam and Indonesia last month. Apple plans to invest more than $250 million to develop its business in Singapore.

In addition, Malaysian Commerce Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz said that Google also plans to invest in the country.

Thus, Southeast Asia is becoming an arena of intense competition between leading technology giants seeking to take leading positions in the fast-growing market for cloud services and innovative solutions.
